List Of Carbohydrate Food Diabetic Can Eat

Bran, oats porridge, Barley.

Fruits - apple, citrus, berries, peaches, pears, plum, and rubard.

Vegetables - avocados, beans, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, celery, cucumber, onions, lettuce, mushrooms, olives, peas, pepper spinach and tomatoes

List of Carbohydrate Diabetic foods to avoid

Breakfast cereals - Cornflakes, and sugar coated cereals,
White bread, cakes, biscuits, bagels, bun muffins, pancakes, doughnuts, white and brown rice.

Fruit - Dates, prunes, watermelon.

Vegetables - broad beans, potatoes, parsnip, Swede

Equivalents for use in Diabetes food

Bread: Equivalents for use in diabetic diets, The equivalent to 1oz of bread (i.e. 15 grams of carbohydrate) is found in the following:

2 Ryvita or Vita-Weat
3 Cream Crackers or Water Biscuits.
3semi-sweet biscuits
¾ cupful cornflakes or other breakfast cereal.
3 tablespoons porridge
1 medium sized potato 75 grams
2 tablespoons boiled rice, spaghetti or macaroni
½ pint of milk

Drinks: The following are equivalent to 20 grams of carbohydrate:
1 glassful milk 175 ml and
2 teaspoons Horlicks, Oval tine or Bourn vita.

2/3 cupful fresh orange juice 100 ml. and
2 lumps or 2 teaspoonfuls of sugar
Diabetic fruit squash and
4 lumps or 4 teaspoons of sugar.
½ cup milk 75 ml. in tea or coffee and
25 gm. Bread (or equivalent).

Foods to be avoided in a Diabetic Diet

The following foods contain a high percentage of carbohydrate and re therefore to be avoided by the diabetic sugar, sweets and chocolate: jam, marmalade, honey or syrup; puddings, cakes and pastries, biscuits (except as equivalents to bread); sweetened fruit drinks and minerals.
